John F. Kennedy - Biography

John F. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. His nick name was Jack.


Family History

He had eight siblings. His parents were Joseph and Rose Kennedy, and they were members of two Boston’s Irish Catholic political families. His grandfather, John Fitzgerald, was mayor of Boston and a U.S. Congressman.

Childhood

As a child, John F. Kennedy had some health problems. In fact, he was diagnosed with Addison’s disease — an endocrine disorder.

Schooling

He went to Canterbury School (a small Catholic school) and Choate Rosemary Hall (located in Wallingford, Connecticut).

Achievements

He was born into one of America’s wealthiest families and ran for Congress in 1946 and for the Senate in 1952. J. F. Kennedy was a very successful businessman and he was appointed chairman  of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In 1937 he was named U.S. ambassador to Great Britain.

Also, he traveled in Europe as his father’s secretary while he was a student at Harvard University.

John F. Kennedy's Presidency

Kennedy ran for president in 1960 against current Vice President Richard Nixon. He won in one of the closest elections in history.

J.F. Kennedy was Elected in 1960 as the 35th president of the United States. He was 43 years old when he became one of the youngest U.S. presidents.

As president, Kennedy confronted the so called Cold War with Cuba and Vietnam.

In his speech he said the famous words: “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country”.

Just a few months after becoming president of the USA, President J. F. Kennedy decided to help Cuban rebels overthrow the communist leader Fidel Castro.

He provided federal support which helped in the growing of the civil rights movement.

Death of President J. F. K.

His assassination occurred on November 22nd, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was killed by an assassin's bullet. 

Kennedy assassination transformed presidential cars forever, from an open-top Lincoln Continental to the heavily-armored car known as the 'Beast'.

To this day, historians continue to rank him among the best-loved presidents in The US history.
